WHY JOIN
Jazz Piano Skills, founded and led by Dr. Bob Lawrence, offers a unique, comprehensive, and structured approach to mastering the art of jazz piano—making it an invaluable resource for jazz musicians of all levels. Here’s why becoming a member is not just beneficial, but essential:
1. Focused Skill Development
Jazz Piano Skills isn’t random. It is a thoughtfully organized educational platform that breaks jazz down into essential, manageable components:
-
Rhythm (articulation, grooves and phrasing)
-
Harmony (voicings and chordal understanding)
-
Melody (development and transposition of motifs)
-
Technique (scales, arpeggios, and mechanics)
-
Improvisation (pattern recognition and vocabulary building)
This targeted focus helps pianists (and instrumentalists) grow with intention, clarity, and measurable progress.
2. World-Class Instruction
Dr. Bob Lawrence, a veteran educator and Director of The Dallas School of Music, brings decades of experience to each lesson. His ability to explain complex jazz concepts with clarity and accessibility is rare. Members benefit from high-level teaching that balances theory, ear training, and real-world application.
3. Real-Time Application with Backing Tracks
Every concept comes with professional backing tracks to ensure students develop the ability to apply skills in real musical settings—improving feel, timing, and articulation (groove). This feature simulates a live ensemble experience, a crucial training ground for improvisers.
4. Learn How to Practice Effectively
Practicing isn't just about time—it’s about strategy. Jazz Piano Skills equips members with practice approaches that develop deep understanding and lasting muscle memory. The program encourages intentional practice routines designed to build both fluency and creativity.
5. Daily Challenges & Monthly Tune Studies
From daily technique builders to in-depth monthly explorations of jazz standards, members are constantly engaged. The Daily Challenges sharpen specific skills, while the Monthly Tune Studies guide students through harmonic analysis, voicing application, and improvisational development—step by step.
6. Community and Accountability
